Picked Pearl up (along with Honeymoon Package) ready for our big day tomorrow. I have driven and love my VW’s for quite some time; David however has never been in a camper; RESULT –HE LOVED IT! After a little time getting used to driving it, ie no power steering, big gear box, Pearl got us safely to South Wales ready for tomorrow.
Our special day today – unpacked stuff and packed food etc in Pearl – can’t wait. Dad was a bit disappointed that it was only 5 minutes drive to Church – think he wanted to cruise around for longer as Dad has owned a few Vee Dubs in his time as well! Got to Church with some fantastic stares and people waiting for a glimpse. After the service it was off to Abergavenny (with the Just Married signs), with lots of honks and waves along the way!
Off to Devon today, still with “Just Married” signs on. Lovely, relaxing drive again with plenty of stares, honks and waves – IT’S GREAT. Arrived at “Little Meadow” campsite, near Ilfracombe – on top of a hill, overlooking the sea, so peaceful … what more could we wish for on our honeymoon? Lovely!
Site is so lovely and quiet, we could get use to this relaxing camper van pace – didn’t set off until 11.45am this morning. Nice drive over to Croyde – all the surfers were there catching the waves. A stop at Woolacoombe on the way back.
Today took us to Clovelly, Bideford, Westward-Ho – all the while having turning heads and flashing lights from fellow veedubbers – we’re now talking for definite about having one of our own.
Today we start heading back towards snailtrail, planning to stop at Glastonbury. Spent some time in Lynton & Lynmouth – big hills up & down - gave Pearl plenty of rests along the way. Lovely steady drive taking in the views along the way. Man commented on Pearl being an “06” and said he had a “real” camper – explained that although 06 registered Pearl still has an air-cooled engine. He assumed she would be a water cooled version – hahaha, she is NOT!
Arrived at Glastonbury early last night – another nice site – Isle of Avalon. Went up to The Torr and to the Peace Gardens – absolutely lovely – quite funny sitting in Tea Rooms watching people peering through Pearl’s windows. Good job we always leave her tidy! Long journey back towards snailtrail – aiming for Leighton Buzzard. Found site near Hertford.
Well, up early today to start our journey back to snailtrail. Thanks Pearl for a fantastic week! We hope to see you again soon.
Thank you David & Yvette for sending in your blog. Congratulations on your marriage - we wish you happy times ahead!
