Matilda Followed in the footsteps of her forebears, recreating the summer of love for two people old enough to know better! On day one, she sedately drove down to Wiltshire: to Stonehenge, where she pitched up at a camping ground and provided warm, cosy shelter for us both.

Once you get off the motorways you have just as much fun looking in the rear view mirror at all the “uptight capitalists” trying to pass you, as you do looking forwards at all the lovely countryside. How cooool!
What a surprise! Whilst heading down through Somerset, Matilda happened across a VW van convention – thousands of customized VW’s! And Matilda spent an enjoyable hour with her friends. Then on the Dartmoor to visit Castle Drogo in the rain. The weather didn’t really let up. It rained for most of the evening, but Matilda provided the entertainment, whilst her guests snuggled down with a glass of wine.
Matilda had a lie-in. There was lots of driving to be done today, so after a lazy breakfast, she made her way across the rain swept moors of Dartmoor, getting caught up in a cross-moor cycle race and causing mischief along the way! Having emerged from the moors at Postbridge, she joined the main road and headed up along the South West coast to Weston-Super-Mare, drawing lots of admiring looks as she rolled along the promenade. From Weston-Super-Mare she crossed the M5 to the land of cheese – Cheddar.
She politely stopped to let a family of goats cross The Gorge, and then headed up the hills to the campsite, where she warmed herself in the evening sun, as the weather had turned out quite nice after all that rain earlier!
Matilda supplied miles & miles of smiles. Thank you "Tilda" - we'll see you soon. xx
Donna & Keith very kindly made up and left us with some CDs for music to drive by - Matilda and her friends now have their own groovy soundtrack! Thank you. It was a real pleasure to meet you both and we hope you will be back before too long! |
